[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] Re[2]: [xj-s] Still Looking to buy
I believe the main reasons for recommending the smaller engine is because of fuel consumption and service costs. If these are not an issue then the V12 is definately the one to go for. After having owned 2 V12's (an '80 then an '83) I decided to test drive a 3.6 after a prick of concience on running costs. It only took 5 minutes to persuade me that my 3rd XJ-S would be another V12. The slightest prod on the throttle caused the box to shift down a gear. This became very irritating having been used to the torque of the V12. I also have no interest in a manual box. They are fun for the odd blast at the weekend but a daily commuter definately needs an auto. You can also still shift the auto manually if the mood takes you. 2 years on I am still happy with that choice. My '89 has been pretty trouble free so far. I look forward to buying one of the last 6.0l in the next year or so although I think my wife may have something to say about that. The hot tip is to buy the 6 cyl xj-s models, if you can get an 86 cabrio, bite the owners hand off!!!. These are rated highly, and will become the collected model, only 5000 built, and 983 with manual transmission...
