More V12 Distributor Issues

As the result of an insane work schedule, I have no time to put my car
back together and just enough to keep thinking... so here are some more
distributor questions:

1. Regarding the vented cap, presumably to cool the distributor down
and/or remove explosive gases from within: what explosive gases? The
sealing capability of this distributor looks no different than any other
car -- why doesn't this happen to all cars? The vent must be to help cool
things a bit.

2. Dead vacuum advance: I removed my vacuum advance and opened it up.
Inside, the diaphragm was all toasty. The material resembled that used on
speaker cones. Your idea to use an inner tube sounds good. I can
probably reuse the stock shaft -- I have enough meat left on the end to
peen it over again -- and maybe I'll also lock it in place with a dab of
solder.

3. Vacuum advance hose: on my car, the vacuum advance line goes to a
regulator. The regulator goes to venturi vacuum and a temperature switch.
The temp switch goes to manifold vacuum. You stated that you put your
rebuilt vacuum advance together with no bleed, and direct to manifold
vacuum. Is that right? Just flush the venturi vacuum and regulator and
temp switch?

4. PCV valve venting: The PCV valve gets all its oil vapors from the
left cylinder bank. What about the vapors in the valley and the right
bank? Any merit to plumbing in three vapor lines to the PCV valve?
(Maybe helps get rid of the 'explosive' vapors, too.)

Thanks.

John
