Had the same problem myself a while back with my 77 XJS, Oil dripping on the exhaust from above the oil filter. I ended up removing the block theoil filter screws to and replacing the gasket and O rings. The actual problem though was the little oil line leading to this block, it had gone hard and cracked thus causing the leak. If doing anything in this area make sure you replace this piece of pipe. With regard to your ball joint setup, the only way to determine the correct position of those shims is with a good wheel alignment done by someone who knows what they are doing, any other way is downright dangerous. If the shims are still uneven look for a possible bend in the chassis or other structural problem. They will never be exactly equal though. It's damn hard to see anything in that area of the engine, and prior > experience would help me tremendously. > > Thanks, Julian Mullaney
