[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] self introduction
Hi Lue: >I've been following the introduction of the XK8 pretty closely and I >am thinking of getting one for myself. If you are thinking of buying one in Japan, think a lot about the pros and cons. On the pro side, with the Yen at about 120 to the US$ the cost of the car in Japan is comparable to what you'd pay in the U.S. -- seriously. On the con side, if ever you think about unloading the car before you leave you will be in for a shock. Typically a new car's price drops by about 50% during the first three years, and thereafter drops to about zero by year 10. Also on the con side are the emmission rules in Japan. Cars that are sold in Japan are "over spec-ed" in terms of emissions control, with consequent results in performance. If ever you think of taking the car out of Japan after your tour of duty, you might not like the price it will fetch on the other end. If after taking all of this into consideration you wish to purchase an XK8, go for the open top variety. The hard top coupe variety looks like the coupe version of a Mazda MS8 -- you don't want your Y8M car too look like a slightly (and only slightly) oversized copy of a Y2M car. Regards Makoto Honjo
