[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] XJS manufacturing defect???
Curious observation from my 1991 XJS: I was installing new front brake pads on my XJS the other day and noticed that the configuration of upper ball joint shims was different on the drivers and passengers side. Driver's side shims were ALL on the rearward side of the ball joint, passenger's side shims were ALL on the front side of the ball joint. I'm positive they were like that from the factory as the car only has 35K miles and I have all maint. records. Surely this would cause different caster (??) on each side and must be a manufacturing flaw??? Anyway, I "fixed" it by putting all shims on the rearward side of both upper ball joints. I think this made the car handle a little better when cornering on bumps but it's really hard to tell. I'm not sure what the proper setup should be. Julian Mullaney
