In a former life, I worked in the parts dept. of a large auto repair shop. I have seen the results of customers, that upon seeing a concave freeze plug in the engine, installed their freeze plug the same way. When the plug blew out, they brought it in for one of the mechanics to re-do. The mechanic cleaned around the hole, smeared permatex in it, then placed the new freeze plug with the concave side out. He then whacked it with a suitable tool, and when finished, the freeze plug was concave "looking". What he had done, was sort of like inverting it so now there was a lot of pressure from the plug pressing against the metal of the head. This flattens the plug and increases > the diameter a little bit. All of this makes fine sense to me. However, all of the ORIGINAL plugs I've found on the V12 have the convex side IN. What's the story? Do they have some different trick for installing? If these are replaced, should the new ones still be installed with the convex side out? -- Kirbert | If anything is to be accomplished, | some rules must be broken. | - Palm's Postulate
