[xj-s] Pascal DOXARVE's missing 2nd gear engine braking

Pascal, yes I have. I posted this question to the group a while ago & did not
get any good answers. Someone posted a web page (don't have the link with me
here at work) where you could learn lots about transmissions. You could even
ask a question th the creater of the site. (this problem & cause are described
in the 4 volume jaguar manual. I have not looked in the 1 volume for this)

I also do not have any engine braking in 2nd (let off the gas and you are in
netural, like coasting on bicycle. If you are not petaling (engine engaged),
you are coasting)

I have not had this corected on my transmission yet. Mine was due to plastic
piston in the valve body braking & running the car for a little while like
this. That caused my car not to have 2nd gear at all. It would shift from 1st
to 3rd.

The problem you are describing is one of the pressure plates in the
transmission is too worn now to engage the engine in 2nd gear when the car is
not under exceleration. Unless you know how to reapair the insides of the GM
TH400, you wil need to take your car to a transmission shop to get this
corrected.

I have not gotten this corrected yet as it is not that big of a deal for me
right now. I do know how much of a problem it can be on mountian driving.
Without the engine braking in 2nd, you are either going too fast in 3rd,
reving the engine in 1st, or risking overheating your brakes.

I will post again when I find the actual working of the components effected
later tonight (if I remember :-) )
