Ooooh! That sounds like a goer! What kind of V6 were you
shoehorning in, and how much did the car weigh when done?

I suspect they work fine, since I've never heard any bad reports.
However, I was a little concerned about whether or not one could be
had for the XJ-S. I presume it must mate to the filter mount, and I
think the XJ-S has a different thread than most. Do you think this
would pose a problem?

Also, I think it'd be ideal to leave the filter right where it is.
Is that possible? Just install the tap block and put the filter
right back on over it?

As in, a remote mount with two filters instead of one? Series or
parallel?

Chad Bolles told me once that this was a serious problem on his
Lamborghini, and that there were kits to install a standard cooling
system thermostat in a housing to regulate the flow of oil to the oil
cooler. I wondered how well a standard thermostat held up immersed
in hot oil, but I guess it shouldn't be a problem.

> Maybe only problem for air cooled?

People who race air-cooled cars sometimes describe them as "oil
cooled". You have to have a LOT of oil cooling to keep them in check
when racing, so I suppose it would be easy to overcool.

Uhhhh, not necessarily. When Jag went from bypass to full flow oil
cooling, the cooler changed. The only reasons I can think of are
that the bypass cooler can't handle the pressure or it can't handle
the flow, otherwise I'd have expected them to continue using the same
cooler. Either reason also causes concerns with a homemade full flow
cooling scheme (which is what we're talking about, after all). So,
I'm kinda thinking of an ADDITIONAL cooler -- which are readily
available.
