I'm having a discussion with Marty Sullivan, who moved to Las Vegas recently. As opposed to here in Florida, he's driving his H&E in hot temps AND stop-and-go traffic (we normally keep moving here in the Big Bend area). He has discovered the shortcomings of Jaguar's bypass oil cooling scheme: at idle, when it's hot, there's little oil pressure, so there's no bypass, and therefore there's no oil cooling right when you need it most. The obvious fix would be to convert to a full-flow system, but let's face it: that change ain't easy or cheap. It requires a lot of parts from Jaguar, and several of them won't be easy to install. So, Marty's thinking about adding a generic oil cooler. You know, one of those kits where you unscrew the spin-on filter, screw on a plate with a pair of hose attachments, and either screw the oil filter back on or provide a remote oil filter mount while you're at it. Of course, he'd have to find a place to put the cooler itself, and it needs its own electric fan for stop-and-go traffic. This would be a full flow system. *ALL* oil goes through the filter (although some is bypassed WITHIN the filter) so all oil would go through a cooler attached this way. Interestingly, I have never heard of anyone trying this. I'd be willing to bet it would be cheaper and easier than converting the stock bypass system to full flow.
