Maybe it is the Austin location, but I must point out that the overheating problem had been hounding me for several years until I replaced the radiator, since; it hasn't been an issue. As for the temp sensor, I do not know, maybe a coolant flow diagram could bring some insight as to the need for an extra one. I still think that many of the overheating problems may lie in small problems (leaks and corrosion) due to age than a original poor design. I may change my mind when one of those valve seats drop!!!
