Are we breathing our own exhaust on this one? Will adding flow really cool the engine more? This sounds like cooling it down by removing the thermostats, and we know that doesn't work, because the increase in flow does not let the water cool down enough... Thermostats do a good and cheap job of controlling the engine temperature -- at least, on every other car in the world, which for some reason don't eat thermostats every couple of years. What we are trying to accomplish here is a controlled reduction in the operating temp of the engine, when needed in extreme conditions or in anticipation of a hot shutdown. Will ANY intervention in flow cool things enough/in time? Probably not. What we need is to inject a bunch of 'cool'. The evaporative assist is sounding better and better. Either that, or use the heater valves to switch in 5 gallons of coolant from a reserve tank that has been sitting at ambient temperature (although in this case the thermostats will still fight you to keep the temps up -- maybe you switch in another set that are calibrated to a lower temp, or switch in the right sized restrictor in a parallel line). ???
