I had the same thing happen to me before. Your problem might be different from what I had but I wish for you that it's the same thing. My cat did this in the middle of an intersection. I thoughlessly reached into the trunk in the middle of the street among traffics and started playing with connectors in the back trunk. There are two connectors going into the battery that are red and about half inch wide. I reconnected them tight and I started hearing that sound of gas being sucked out again. It was something pretty simple and I really hope that you're having the same simple problem.
