I noticed a stream or plume of smoke coming from >the area where the auto transmission dip stick is. The smoke was coming >out as if it were under pressure. Any ideas as to what this is?? Is it >related to the previous problem?? >An ad in the local paper had an 87 xj-s being parted out. The engine >sold for $200, but the trans is still for sale(approx $150). Would this >be worth picking up?? Thanks in advance for all the help Check the modulator valve. If it is defective, transmission fluid can be pulled into the intake manifold. (Pull off the vacumn line from the modulator valve at the intake manifold, if there is transmission fluid present in the line, you have found your problem) In addition, if there is too much fluid in the transmission, it will be forced out the bleed vent located at the top of the unit.
