Hi, have been reading this thread, and on neither of my cars (xj40 and xj-sc), does the 'needle remain anchored at normal' If it did this could also indicate a duff stat. When warming up mine will creep maybe 1/2 notch above normal, until stat is fully open then drop back to normal. In traffic the needles do move up and down as extra cooling is called for and cancelled. Also in winter the needles will fluctuate slightly, and will drop a whole notch when the stat opens and really cold coolant from the rad passes through the system. Would have thought this was normal.
