I just refilled my AC system with freon after doing a bunch of stuff to my car over the past two months. It was supposed to be the crowning moment celebrating victory over all the small things that had needed repair. Of course, the compressor was a rebuilt one from Pep Boys, supposedly a good one. Yes, I pulled a vaccum on the system for a good 2 hrs. and all was OK. Then when I put the freon in, the clutch would not engage. It just kept clicking on and off rapidly never turnig the compressor more than a 1/2 turn each time. I figured that the pressure switch was the culprit, so I hot wired the clutch so I could get the freon in there. After putting the freon in the normal clutch plug was replaced, and all worked fine. The car was icy cold and I was lovin it. Then I took it for a drive and smelled a burning smell. I noticed the car had been surging a very slight bit. maybe the AC clutch was doing the intermittent thing again. I pulled over and smoke poured out of the wheel arch. Holy shit the car was on fire. I raisedthe hood and bright flames leapt out from the rubber damper on hte AC clutch. In a flash I had the extinguisher on it. Luckily, nothing else was burnt. I think I was really lucky not to lose the car to a major fire. Does anyone have a clue what could make this happen? Is there anything wrong with just running the AC compressor 100% of the time and doing away with all that clutch on /off sensor shit? I'm getting $$%^^& tired of this mutha ^&&* car trying to $%^&& me over all the time. Thanks for listening Julian Mullaney
