I have a myriad of questions, about my 1983 XJS that I recently purchased and I am in the process of restoring. Several items have started to not work correctly or work on a sometime basis, let me list them: 1. The speedometer works occasionally and does not related to any other condition that exists. 2. After starting the engine the tachometer will not work at first, but works after about 15-20 seconds. 3. At engine startup the alternator light on the dash does not go out for about 30-40 seconds. 4. Sometimes the air conditioning will not work and sometimes it will. 5. The headlights have begun to behave strangely, sometimes all work fine, sometimes only the left side will work on low beam setting, and sometimes the right side will only work on high beam setting. 6. The engine seems to have a light surge at any cruseing speed, like it wants to go faster. 7. Sometimes the engine just stops, but will restart after a few trys. 8. The power antenna will not raise when radio is turned on, but can be activated with a direct power lead. 9. The steering is unusual, after making a low speed turn in which the engine speed is at or near idle RPM the steering wheel wil not return to top dead center, but will be cocked toward the direction of the turn. This happens in both directions and on every low speed turn. These are a few of my concerns; I have talked to a few mechanics in my local but most do not know or have different opinons. My question is, Are these a bunch of single problems or is there some common thing that should be cheked first (i.e. ECU)? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated, Thanks Joe D. Ferguson
