Hmmm.  I wouldn't even try to stop any particles that would fit 
through the tubes.  Offhand, I was thinking of a screen with perhaps 
1/16" mesh, maybe even larger.  If radiators are plugged by SMALLER 
particles that somehow get together to plug tubes that they cannot 
plug individually, then the screen wouldn't do any good.

Well, now, that all depends on the size of the filter.  But I 
wouldn't be looking to install something larger than an oil filter in 
here, so I wouldn't be considering anything that fine.

IOW, there's a LOT of crud in these circuits?  Frankly, I would have 
hoped that once the majority was caught by the screens (and cleaned 
out shortly after installation), then the circuit would be largely 
clean and very little additional crud would accumulate.  Especially 
when coolant changes involve distilled water and no Barr's Leaks.
