[xj-s] Removing head

I was thinking about fabricating something similar to Kirby's idea of
several individual bars instead of one large plate. What concerned me was
the fear that the torque required to lift the head might somehow damage the
head. What I mean is that I would assume one plate would spread the torque
evenly all around the head. It seems to me that it might be risking warping
the head, or even damaging the pair of cam bearing studs or their
surrounding surfaces if only certain studs were stuck. Also If you were
applying torque to a particular stud and it wasn't stuck, then tightening to
some particular torque would you therefore be forcing "something" to move up
at that point without the rest of the head also rising?

How I unstuck my head was to use the four engine lifting hooks on each head.
I lifted the engine by the four hooks and gravity with the help of a heavy
hammer and wooden block across the heads of the stuck studs, broke the head
free from the block. Lots of liquid wrench and several sessions of
tightening the head back down, lifting it up, whacking it, tightening it
down and eventually I was able to wiggle it free. I used all four hooks to
try to spread the load to as many studs as possible. I had visions of them
tearing out of the head. But it worked fine. I used this method on both
heads, and while it took maybe three hours to complete, it didn't damage
anything.
