Actually, what comes with it is a pretty long list of items that they
refurbish on _every_ rebuild, such as replacing all bearings.  This is in
contrast to the cigar smoker that, I suspect, will only fix whatever is
immediately necessary to get it working, leaving marginal parts in place.

Your suspicions are quite correct.  Larry Hoy of this list found a parts
place that would take the Lucas core in exchange for a rebuilt GM
alternator.  He indicated he remembered getting $25 for the Lucas versus
the $15 that he would have received for a GM.  I was less lucky, however,
as one parts place showed no interest in the Lucas whatsoever.  So, when
I went to Pep Boys I didn't raise the issue and I got a $20 credit.  In
any case, it wasn't worth the extra couple of bucks to bother with it.
