The geninue item is moulded with a tight enough bend to clear everything by at least 1/4". Just how long the new british rubber will last is anybodies guess, but a least its not going to rub through... A possible catch with your theory is obtaining 5/8" od piping. I don't know about your area, but its unobtainable in my area. Anything below 1/2" od is easy. As is 15mm or 20mm copper water pipe. But not 5/8". Get a flaring tool (my HW store calls it a "Bel Crox Tool") could be a problem too. Follow-Ups:
