[xj-s] A few quick thoughts

Hi everyone,

I have a few thoughts about some of the topics discussed recently.   For the foam around the radiator I went to a local upholstery shop and obtained several pieces of what they called high density foam.  They use it because it retains its shape even after hundreds of compactions and expansions.   Seems to hold up fine used to seal around the radiator.  It's been in there for two years and still pliable.

For the drive belt from the antenna; try bringing what's left of it to a VCR repair center or a Electronic Parts Store in your area. (forget Radio Shack... if they have it, it's too common a part for anyone to actually need)    It was a sort of part time job of mine and I know there are literally hundreds of generic belts of all sizes available as replacements for original Japanese parts.

I replaced my electric fan with a SAAB turbo fan, (mainly because I had a donor car).  It does work exponentially better than stock.

One last thing:  About using expanding foam as a way to prevent water from "getting in there",  I paint and do body work on cars as a hobby (when I'm not replacing valve seats).  I was taught that it isn't usually a good idea to try to seal up a cavity.  You think you're keeping water out, but in reality you are trapping moisture and causing more harm than good.  Just my 2 Cents worth.

Bye the way, as an alternative to the heat/freeze method of installing seats, does the "pressed" in method ever work better than the interference fit way of installing?

Dave
