Dear Jerry and Pat Johnson You asked >I have an 87 XJ6 S3. I have been trying to locate the problem with the ho= >rns. If they are hooked-up they don't stop! I have searched for a ground = >but the only wiring diagram I have is for an earlier model and the colors= > are all wrong. Is this a common problem? Does anyone have any pointers? Your problem is almost certainly a short circuit in the steering column. Here is a copy of a standard response I wrote for this problem some time ago. "Your problem is 99% sure to be down the middle of the steering column. Remove the two cross head screws in the back of the steering wheel spokes and remove the horn the horn button assembly. The horn circuit is that nylon nut screwed to the top of the steering column tube. If it is not screwed on or the thread is stripped from the nylon then this is certainly your problem as it will flop to one side and short circuit. This is because there is no insulation on the brass rod attached to the nylon nut. You can fix this by either purchasing a new part or buying a can of Coke. In the case of the Coke, drink the Coke but keep the straw and use it to insulate the brass rod. The nylon guide on the bottom of the brass rod can be removed with care to install the straw." Let me know if that's not the problem and I'll give some thought to other ways to avoid the 5 hour job of disassembling the steering column to get at the bottom end insulator for the brass rod. >Also, I found a very large red wire in the trunk. It was cut in two piece= >s and one end was grounded. It (the grounded piece) was attached to nothi= >ng. I have not traced the other piece yet. Any ideas? NO, be more specific - where in the trunk? It is almost certainly an add-on. Jaguar ground wires are ALWAYS black. >Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this model. If so, I would apprecia= >te it. I have a not half bad one (more like 75%) from the Haynes manual - send me your Fax number. >I took my first extended drive in it this weekend and it was wonderful! Yes, they are aren't they, >Any info on cruise control would also be appreciated. I read the article = >on the web but don't know what a "stalk" is. I know, I need to learn alot= 1. The Stalk is the stick poking out the side of the stering column. 2. Try Kirby's XJ-S book or maybe Jim Isabell's (I haven't been through it yet) XJ6 Bumper to Bumper. >Thanks for the help.........Pat= Pleasure Robert Bradley 82 Daimler, 82 XJ6, 87 XJ-S (whow.... it's a fast car that one laddy!)
