The Marelli ignition system is what replaced it, 1988 I think. Obvious from
a cursory look under the hood, the distributor caps are totally different.

In hearing from Jag owners about this problem, it appears to have been a
problem way back on the E-type MkIII. I suppose it's some sort of sign of
British stubbornness that it wasn't corrected sooner; 1971-88 is a long time
to remain in denial about such a fundamental problem with such horrendous
consequences.

The Jag six surely had a centrifugal until the advent of electronics, but it
most certainly was not the same unit as the V-12. Since I only concern
myself with V-12's, I dunno if they suffered the same problem. Offhand, it
would seem no more likely they would share this problem with the V-12 than
any other car's distributor -- but perhaps they were designed by the same
idiot or lubed with the same glue^H^H^H^Hgrease at assembly.
