U-joint replacement XJ6

Thanks to everyone for your diagnosis of the clunking when I shifted
into reverse from drive or vice versa. It was the forward u-joint
adjacent to the transmission which had practicaly disintegrated. I
marked the parts as I was cautioned to do. The car runs beautifully
now !

The joini Must have been the original which had lock-tite on it. I
tried to push the unit out of the yoke with a 6 inch C-clamp and two
sockets. It was so tight that the handle on my clamp looks like a
pretzel. I poured liquid wrench all over the unit with little
imporvement. As a last resort I took a hammer and pounded on the
socket for nearly 20 minutes. The caps barely moved with each blow.
Finally they popped out.

The results were worth it though.

Thanks again.

Luis
