Over the past week or two there was some discussion about XJ-40 idle speed. I adjusted the idle speed according to the instructions provided by the group on my 1988 XJ-40. Before adjustment the car would stall with the computerized idle control, ie with the solenoid closed as instructed. It also had a slightly lumpy idle. After adjustment of the allen key screw approx 1 turn open, the engine ran fine without the automatic idle control. The engine also idled better, if only slightly faster with the automatic idle control reconnected. Definitely worth the effort. So both opinions are true..... the idle speed often can not be adjusted, however the baseline idle speed produced without computer intervention can. Note that the RPM counter in the dash is approx 50 RPM slow according top my digital tach. Paul Lacey, TX Follow-Ups:
