re: XJ40 rotors

Re the questions on rotors/steering rack. Had similar problems with my 1988
XJ-40.

a) Rotors on this car tend to warp easily. But they can be turned and there
was a minimum spec (which I cant remember, but I think is stamped somewhere
on the rotor). However, new rotors are fairly cheap and its worth the cost
just to put on new ones. Mine kept warping after they were turned and were a
pain. Never regretted putting on new ones.

b) Thought my steering rack was weeping also, but was wrong. There was a
slight weep from the fitting at the back of the power steering pump and also
the rubber hose from the header tank. The slight drip ran down the engine
mount and was very hard to trace untill I degreased the whole area and kept a
close eye on it. At first glance, the fitting at the back of the pump
appears to be a bushing with approx 1" OD. In reality it is a more complex
piece sealed by an O ring that takes on a set over time. A new O ring solved
the leak.
