[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] Thanks!!
This is reaffirmation of Jim's recent reminder to read his book - I have been going crazy recently trying to find a clunking noise in the front end of my 87 XJ6 - even thought it was the steering, then the shocks etc. etc. - you know the drill - last night I decided to reread Kirby and Jim's books again and at 11 p.m. last night th words jumped out at me from Jim's book - MAKE SURE THE CROSS BARS OVER THE ENGINE ARE TIGHT - IT CAUSES CLUNKS THAT WIL DRIVE YOU NUTS TRYING TO FIND THEM - duhhhhhhh - I tightened them last night at midnight and just came back from the quietest ride I have had in along time - no more clunks!!! I can't figure out whether I am more gratefull or feel more stupid - anyhow I have come up with 3 things one should do before beginning to troubleshoot the problems: 1) Read the books by Kirby and Jim 2) Read the books by Kirby and Jim 3) Read the books by Kirby and Jim Thanks again - (my wife also thanks you, my dog thanks you, my cat ...) Don P.S. I can not believe that the fenders or the undercarriage can flex that much to make that kind of noise - the one bolt I tightened was only one turn!
