 I gave this advise before for a XJ40, but someone else wrote in and said I
 was wrong.   I checked a couple of used vehicles at the dealership, and all
 had the idle RPM posted.  Perhaps we were dealing with manufacturing
 differences for different countries.
 
 In the United States, since 1972 I believe, the vehicle manufacuter must
 identify the emission control components and the tune up specifications on
 the emissions label located in the engine compartment.  The US emissions
 label will tell you the idle RPM.
