To adjust the "base idle" on an 88-89 XJ40 you need to run the stepper motor completely closed first. You can use a GM IACV tool that connects to the battery and has several fly leads with different style connectors for different stepper motors. Find the one that fits and by sliding the switch up or down it will close the stepper. Then set your idle with the allen screw. If the engine stalls when you close the stepper, then you probably need to clean and set the throttle plate and potentiometer first and go back to the base idle setting. Lenny :) |
