[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] Hood Scoops on XJS
People, Any time I have seen NACA ducts on the Bonnet (English and proud!) of an XJS, mine included, they have been positioned right in front of both air intakes for the V12 with the idea of allowing an easier airflow into the air filters. I copied the idea from a Lister I saw as I liked the look of the car with the NACA ducts in place and thought that the extra air to the filters must also help, as Lister are usually pretty good at doing mods to cars with performance in mind. Kirby's book (although obtained after my car was back on the road) also confirmed that this was not a bad modification. As to the cooling benefits on the engine, I think that the British and Dutch climates hardly test such theories, as I only ever overheated once and that was caused by a fan-belt failure and faulty electrical fan (Before the car came off the road for the rebuild and NACA ducts etc.). I will continue reading this thread with interest as engine temperature seems to be always on the mind of anyone whose car has alloy heads. Martin Follow-Ups:
