[ nick@sn.no (Nick Johannessen) ] | | [ nick@sn.no (Nick Johannessen) ] | | | | Continuation of thread previously titled "Cold start problems"... | | Ok, there seems to general agreement that the starter has | to come out, and I've received enough clues to give me a | pretty fair idea of how to go about it. With a few hints on how to get the starter out, and another trip to the tool-shop, I finally got the blasted things out. This job is probably a lot easier on a LHD vehicle. With the stearing stuff filling the already very limited space it was a bit tricky. Still, got the starter out and took it to a local Lucas shop for testing and possibly rebuild. The diagnosed that it was completely kaput, pulling 4-500 amps on idle... They offered a new one for only £500 dollars. Being rather low on funds I ordered a rebuilt one from Classic Spares in the UK for roughly half the price (www.jagweb.com/classicspares). Just hope the rebuild is good. Fittingly enough the temperature has now gone down here and the dreaded flu has struck me over... Will report again when I've got a bit further.
