[E-Type] Re: Garbage oil brand

John Repass writes:

<< I dont use synthetics now in any of my cars as I don't think that it
is worth the added cost. Other than the smoking experience on Caravan,
I haven't used synthetic oil. I drive all my cars to 150,000 miles or
so without doing any internal engine work. One of my current cars, 85
Honda, has 190,000 miles on it and still runs fine on Pennzoil using
only a quart or so of oil every 2000 miles. I doubt that the brand of
oil makes a difference but I was born in Pennsylvania. >>

John and all. We've found all oils are NOT alike through an expensive lesson.
I own a fleet of Ford Cargo Vans with the venerable 4.9 engines. Recently one
of the vans spun a lower bearing with 82,000 miles on the clock. We ritually
do oil changes every 3,000 miles and upon teardown found upper cylinder head
full of sludge. We had been using a 'House Brand' from a local parts store
called "Parts Master". On checking the other vehicles, we found considerable
sludge buildup. All engines were flushed and we now stick with Castrol.
Penny wise and Pound foolish.
