Thanks to all who responded to my recent question regarding the thumping sound from the right side of the car from the back. All of the answers suggested a loose exhaust or the rear transmission mount. I had the latter exchanged at the dealer and had the exhaust checked. They didn't find a loose bracket but some rusted part (straight pipes), which were replaced. Although the experts at the dealer never heard the thumping anyway (some may remember that they replaced the 4 rear shocks the first time I complained), it actually seems to be away. I have not heard it since the repair (800 DM in total). Another example where the list is way better than the dealer in terms of competence. Now I have a new question: Upon acceleration from standstill I get more and more often a grinding sound, which I can avoid by less spirited taking off. What could that be? Any suggestions what could be damaged? karsten.eller@cza.x400.basf-ag.de '90 XJ-S V 12
