[xj-s] Follow up on Pascal DOXARVE's missing 2nd gear engine braking

As promised. According to my 1 volume Jaguar manual on page 44-14 the
problems for no engine braking in 2nd gear can be do to the following 3
conditions.
1
-Front servo & accumulator-
Oil rings and/or bores leaking or front servo piston cocked or stuck
2
Incorrect combonation of front servo and accumulator parts
3
-front band-
Broken, burned (check for cause), not engaged or ancor pin and/or servo pin

Looks like my memory is getting bad at the ripe old age of 32 as I thought
this info wad in the 4 volume book. While looking through volume 3 section 44
on the TH400, there is no good trouble shooting that I can find. Oh well. I
still can not find the web site someone posted a while ago where I posted the
question on what may be causing my problem with no engine breaking in 2nd.
after describing that this started happening a little after I replaced the
acumulator piston in the valve body. It had broken at the shaft & was causing
my tranny to only shift 1 - 3 & always skipping 2nd. He informed me that my no
engine breaking in 2nd is most lilely caused by the increased pressure on the
front bands causing them to wear out or get burned causing the transmission to
freewheel in 2nd when not under load.

As I do not do much mountian driving, this is not much of a problem for me.
that is why i am holding off getting this corrected until I get my spare
transportation in better shape. It has been like this for me for over a year
with no additional problems.

Good luck Pascal.
