Well, speaking hypothetically :), suppose you made a circuit to disconnect 4 evenly spaced injectors during warm up, the dead cylinders would make great air pumps! At one time they had an xjs 3.6 that wouldn't start. The exhaust guy had left a rag in the pipe. Trying to start it with starter fluid the car had backfired so many times that the butterfly valve was bent to almost a semicircle. Then it was abandoned, gathering dust in a corner of the shop for 9 months. I guess that's not sick, just pretty sad.
