I can't say, unfortunately, how low the system was when my light lit up. 
I can say that I was driving along and it suddenly started flickering on
and then off as I went over bumps.  Although I would usually do such work
myself, this time I was on my way to a Jag mechanic for something else,
so I had him replace the hose (that goddamned middle one on the cross
tube under the A/C compressor) while I was there.  Thus, I don't know how
much coolant he had to replace.
