     May be supplementary air valve on passenger side under manifold. This 
     valve allows additional air to enter increasing idle when cold. If 
     faulty may cause that.

Well...with many contributions, my cooling issues seem to have 
abated....thanks again. But after three whole days a new mystery for 
me to be puzzled about.
     
In "park" and "neutral" the engine surges about 100 rpm and drops back 
in 2 second cycles. Occasionally it surges a little more. In "drive" 
(with the foot brake applied) it does not surge. Any clues guys?
