I found the car on the web at www.traderonline.com. It just happened to be
within 20 miles of my house. It was offered by a private party. He had only
had the car 7-8 months, and knows nothing about Jaguars, and didn't want to
pay a Jag mechanic to fix it. He had posted it at $7900, with 64,000 miles,
and it is a Collection Rouge. Blue book on it was about $14,000, in near
perfect shape. Apart from the fire, the car is nearly perfect. On the advice
of the good people of this list, I offered $5000, and after all the hagling,
we ended up at $6450. It might have been had for less, but I was hooked from
the start.
As for the harness, after cutting most of the bundles apart, it appears to
be in better shape than I thought, and so I will also be patching it instead
of buying a new harness. Good luck on your purchase. Perhaps we can compare
notes as we fix our respective meltdowns.
Regards,
Keen Young
