What's a good figure to shoot for? I think that the lower radiator hose is the bes place to put the thermostat, as it has some dependence on the amount of cooling being done by the radiator. Most modern cars have the fan swith there. As a point of reference, the V12 E-type had only electric fans (no mechanical) and it had an 82 degree Celcius thermostat (fully open at 95 degrees) and a 76 degree fan switch in the lower hose. So if you are using 88 degree C thermostats, the 80 degrees C of your standard switch is probably OK. regards, Mike References:
