Hello everyone, As I slowly re-assemble my engine I'm trying to decide the best temperature to set my new electric fan's thermostat. I'm replacing the stock setup (more stuff for the attic) with a 16" GM fan. I will be fabricating an entire new shroud. Obviously the original electric thermo switch for the stock electric fan is not suitable for the new "main" fan. The stock switch is designed to switch when the coolant coming from the Radiator is over 180 degrees. This obviously is set to turn on the aux fan when the coolant temp is too hot. Does anyone have any idea what temp coolant coming out of the head is acceptable? If we are using 180 tstats then the temp normally would be over this point. If I use an upper radiator hose as my measuring point, at what temperature does everyone think I should set the thermostatic switch? It would be meaningless to have the fan turn on whenever the tstats are open. Might as well hard wire the fan. On the other hand setting the fan to turn on when the coolant returning to the engine is at 180 is also pointless. What's a good figure to shoot for? TIA Dave Follow-Ups:
