I agree. This thread about cooling and dropped seats is, IMHO, overblown.
I live in a fairly hot summer locale (Virginia USA--temp today is 100 with
heat index of 110 deg F.) and have had my 89 for four years with no
problems. Have run this car hard and fast in hot weather. I do not tempt
fate though. I regularly maintain the cooling system and put in distilled
water. As a result, I have found little or no "junk" in the system,
therefore all this filter-trap stuff seems un-necessary to me.

I just spent 25 hours (in money) replacing a heater core (clogged) and an
A/C evaporator bottle. This is NOT a trivial task, requiring disassembly
of the entire dash, center console, and front seats. The core was corroded
(why? poor supplier materials? is this a cheap car or what??) My heater
was much less effective on those 25 degree F. days with the top down (!),
but the needle never varied from just being below the "N", so this confirms
this earlier thread about the nill effect of the heater on the cooling
system's effectiveness.

My 2-cents on the XJS V12 "overheating" concerns:
1) Like a turbo-engined car, allow for a cool down period after running
hard or on a hot day. Don't shut it down suddenly
2) Keep oil clean and full
3) Clean exterior of engine regularly and keep free from build-up of oil
and grease
4) Flush and fill cooling system every year with correct anti-freeze and
*distilled* water
5) (optional) Open hood after running hard to let heat escape
6) By responsible, not paranoid. Just because Kirby's car overheated and
dropped valve seats, it does not mean we all have contracted XJ-S "AIDS"
(All Infected w/Dropped Seats)
