I am the proud owner of a 92 XJ-S convertible. A car that I have wanted to own since I was a student working at the Brown's Lane factory in the mid 70's. I worked on the cleaning crew during the two week summer holiday shutdown and was able to roam the factory while supposedly repainting the inside of the massive heating boilers with some noxious anti-rust paint which will probably result in cancer some day! I moved to California from Coventry in the early 80's (I actually lived in a small town called Kenilworth about 8 miles from the factory). The memories of eating my sandwiches at lunchtime sitting in the jags (they were all unlocked so I picked a different one every day) never left me and my dream of owning an XJ-S came true almost 20 years later. So much for the bio... I have a problem I would like advice on. I have read Kirby Palm's advice regarding the steering rack bushings and have mentioned this to my mechanic, (California Coventry) in Costa Mesa, California and he advised me not to replace, stating that I would experience a much harder ride and going over bumps, pot-holes, etc, would result in the steering column vibrating. This conversation started last October when I complained about the steering which had become really loose...I can turn the wheel from 11' O'clock to 1' O'clock at 70 mph with virtually no reaction from the car. This same problem creates an understeer problem. After describing the problem my mechanic replaced the steering bushings -- no real improvement. Front end bushings also replaced -- no improvement. Apart from changing my mechanic what other possibilities do I have? Thank you Sean Stanley _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
