Harry, Our ER dept recently went through Hazardous Materials training for decontamination of patients who are involved in chemical spills.... According to the instructors Phosgene is one of the nerve gases utilized in chemical warfare (read Iraq) and truly is deadly to humans. I believe its and anticholinesterase in the body such as most nerve gases. Nevertheless I think a fire needs to be present for it to be produced... therefore if your car is on fire and you decide to remain in it (such as the horse in a burning barn) then you may be at risk.. a normal person probably wouldn't make the same choice!!! I plan on converting my Jag to r-134a when I get the time since my AC died this spring, but my choice is a matter of convenience of supplies and parts.... sorry so long... rambling this AM... Michael A. "m.d.a.@SoftHome.net" 89 XJ-S (white) Still dead in the garage 93 Altima (black) spouse has it at work.... 91 Plymouth Spirit (borrowed!!!) ---------- > From: Harry Trafford <traff@ICON.HMSD.UFL.EDU> > To: 'xjs list' <xj-s@jag-lovers.org> > Subject: [xj-s] Re: Re: A/C convert to R134a > Date: Friday, July 17, 1998 5:51 PM > > R12 turns to phosgene gas when it's in the presence of high heat(like a fire), or what my instructor in Air Force tech school termed, "Deadly" phosgene gas. They always emphasized the "Deadly" part. > > Harry
