[xj-s] Post shutdown coolant circulation

Hi everyone,

Has anyone ever thought of using one of the water pumps designed for RV use
to continue to circulate the coolant after shutdown? I believe JC Whitney
has a small pump for under 20 dollars (US). As an example, suppose I was
to use Kirby's idea of replacing the coolant transfer pipes with the copper
equivalent. Somewhere in the middle I inserted a TEE fitting. I could
connect this TEE to the pump and connect the discharge side somewhere else.
Perhaps to the pipe on top of the radiator. I know the total amount flowing
would be small, but it would be better than nothing. Connect the pump to
run along with the dc fan for some time period and the coolant would
continue to circulate for this time period. Of course this would provide
another bypass to the thermostats, maybe someone else could think up another
possible configuration. At $20 I could install one on each side. The
question would be how the pumps would hold up to the high temperature.
Maybe the only way to test the theory would be to try it. If it failed, I
could simply cap the outlet and inlet TEEs and be only $40 poorer for having
tried. Any thoughts?

FWIW: I only use distilled water in my cooling systems and batteries. When
my fan EXPLODED several years ago and went through my radiator I had it
re-cored. The tubes still looked pretty clean.

Dave
