FWIT, my original rebuild of the vacuum advance, as described in Kirby's book, has been in place for about two years, and it has held up well. The slim mounting surface has not been a problem. Maybe this is not surprising, since it is the crimp that really holds it all together, and the 8 screws do a good enough job of simulating that. John References:
