[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] Re: [xj-s] AC: R134 into R12...consequences
My car was recently converted to r143a at a total cost, including some leak repairs, of about $300. The mechanic told me that the R12 cost alone outweighed to cost of converting. He got a $50 kit, and replaced a whole bunch of rubber seals. When the system was working, it worked great! Unfortunatly, he never thought that replacing the expansion valve was worth bothering with and the A/C is intermittent. I am going to his place tomorrow and raising hell. The few times the A/C did work, it was GREAT, and icy-cold. The only problem is this mechanical failure, not a problem with the coolant itself. Leave that ester and PAG crap to the professionals, they USUALLY know what they are doing in this area because there is a test they have to pass. It mostly focuses on enviromental issues, and it isn't hard to pass, but rules out the incompetance pretty well. The best thing about r134a is that it is DIRT CHEAP, and once converted, you can work on the A/C yourself, should it spring a leak, etc. John
