[jag-news] Jaguar Encourages Engineers of the Future

August 2001

Jaguar Cars will once again take centre stage at the Imagineering Fair this
August Bank Holiday weekend. Following the success of the Town and Country
Festival in 2000, Jaguar returns this year with an impressive new exhibit and
activity programme that aims to encourage the region's youngsters to consider
a future in engineering. The Festival runs from Saturday 25th to Monday 27th
of August at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire.

The Jaguar exhibit will showcase Jaguar Racing's Formula Three (F3) car
together with its team drivers, James Courtney and Andre Lotterer,
state-of-the-art manufacturing machines, race vehicle testing exhibitions and
a host of technologies that will fascinate visitors.

Robert Mackie, Jaguar Project Engineer, who will host the exhibit adds: "The
aim is to spark interest in young people to take notice of the world of
engineering and technology in the hope that one day Jaguar could welcome them
as college leavers or University graduates."

Jaguar's leading display is the work of its 'F1 in Schools' project, recently
featured on Tomorrow's World and Blue Peter. Launched in 2000, the project is
a joint initiative between Jaguar, BA Systems and Denford Limited. The
project's climax comes at the national schools competition at London's
Olympia in 2002, where entrants will race miniature racing cars designed and
built by the individual school teams.

The best of these miniature vehicles will be put to the test on a purpose
built track at the Imagingeering Fair. Young visitors will also have the
opportunity to get involved in the project by trying out design ideas on
Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, and testing these concepts with the
technologies used by Jaguar engineers.

Jaguar Racing's F3 drivers, together with their team of mechanics, will be on
hand to assist budding team members with design and racing tips, and to show
the F3 vehicle and offer cockpit tours for charity.

James Courtney said: "We're really looking forward to the Imagineering Fair
as it provides youngsters with the opportunity to get to grips with the
fundamentals of vehicle design, engineering and racing outside of the
classroom. It is also a very hands-on experience, which is highly engaging
and lots of fun."

Other Jaguar exhibits include a high-tech wax-modelling machine, which
transfers designs into 3-D wax models, a laser paper modelling robot and a
personalised mouse mat machine.
