John The article did not specifically mention the GM400 so it may have only been applicable to the earlier BW. I do not recall the problem in any of my XJ-S's either but I just thought I would share the article. Richard richard.mansell@ps.net '89 XJ-S 5.3 ex - '83 XJ-S 5.3 ex - '80 XJ-S 5.3 ______________________________ Forward Header __________________________________ Subject: XJ-S GM400 accidental shifting & where is TT Author: owner-jag-lovers@sn.no%ussmtp at ccx400uk Date: 25/02/97 16:25 I am a little confused on what the shifting problem is with the GM400 and the XJ-S. on my 88 US spec, I can not accidentally shift from 2 or drive into reverse without moving the shift lever to the left. I can move the shift lever from 2 - D all I want, but must move the lever to the left to get into either 1 or up into N, R or P. Maybe I have the "J-GATE" as mentioned here: ( Just glad I do not have the problem, still might like to change it over to a 6 speed someday. Well I can dream... ) >>Subject: Re: Accidental automatics >>Richard, >>To my knowledge, all current Jags have the "J-Gate", which eliminates the >>possibility of shifting from 2 to reverse. I have driven many auto boxes, >>and the J-Gate works better than anything I've yet experienced. >>BTW, my wifes Honda accord has the same shift problem described on the >>XJ-S, and it's brand new. On a different subject: ( post was about a possible 420G purchase ) >>I don't know >>how common they are where you are (where is "tt" anyway?). If Sheldon's reference to TT is the same as the internet country code, then it is Trinidad & Tobago. John Himes 88 XJ-S 101K Miles :-)
