[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] SIII vivbration.
My 82.5 xj6 has been gone through stem to stern and pronounced to be in exceptional health in every way. The slight vibration I feel especially at low speeds was investigated through the entire driveline. The only thing found was a slightly catchy Ujoint on the left half shaft. It was replaced, as have been another driveshaft Ujoint, the transmission mount, and the offset of the driveline was declared appropriate by this experience Jaguar mechanic. The vibration remains. Slightly worse on acceleration, but always discernible up to 25 to 30 mph, and around 45. Somehow, it seems less noticeable when the engine is cold and enriched. When it warms up, it is more noticeable. NOW, the shop manual attributes vibration to Ujoints (this has been eliminated as a cause), loose flang bolts (driveshaft) (I presume this was verified), and the offset of the driveline, the advice being to move the mount slightly to the left just until the vibration disappears. This seems to be the last option open, although the mechanic says that DECREASING the offset this way, is seldom a cure. HELP!!! This is a minor but irritating problem. (By the way, the wheels are new, and balanced; the problem was the same with the old wheels on, so that is not likely to be the cause). Can the torque converter in the transmission cause this? The transmission operates perfectly in every way (70,000 miles, no rebuild, just fluid changes.) ANY SUGGESTIONS MUCH APPRECIATED before I go back to the mechanic. Gregory Andrachuk, Victoria, Canada
