Restoration Questions

Greetings,

Two quick restoration questions:

1.  Did Jaguar use adhesive to hold the felt in the window frames on mid
'60 saloons?
On some of the frames that I've taken from my MK ll there is something
that could have once been an adhesive under the felt.  Other frames have
nothing under the felt.  What did you use when installing new felt ?

2.  Licence plate restoration.  It seems like it should be easy but I
can't seem to get the high quality finish of the original.  For one
thing I'm leaving brush strokes when I paint the raised numbers and
letters.  Must I try to mask and spray?? Any suggestion on techinque
would be appreciated.
